Calendars since 2002

The annual CWDS calendar as a form of a feminist archive. Every year, we have had a different theme for our calendars, but they were all forms of feminist archiving. Each calendar merges texts with visuals to provide a platform that is easily accessible. It has the ‘every day’ quality of being a calendar, while at the same, through its visuals and captions, reminding people of the richness of India’s feminist history

Theme: Radio Retrospective
Year: 2024
In July’1923 the radio club of Bombay (Mumbai) first broadcast programmes over airwaves followed by the Calcutta (Kolkata) radio club. To commemorate the centenary of this major event, we bring out Calendar 2024. This wireless media soon gained immense popularity all over the world. In india, till 1980s, before the massive intervention of television, radio was the only source for news and entertainment. Women had an important role to play and through rare archival photographs, our calendar showcases them in this medium.
